Billy Drake Finishes 2nd in Kentucky, Heading to Diamond Nationals at Lucas Oil
Speedway in Missouri
Bloomington, IL (May 7, 2008) - Billy Drake Racing traveled to Kentucky Lake Speedway in Calvert City, KY over the
weekend and competed in a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event the "Kentucky 99". The 50-lap feature
event paid $9,999 to the winner and valuable points towards the series national point's standings. Billy would finish 7th in
his heat race after his engine began to falter in the last laps of the heat race. Billy would park the primary car with a hurt
motor and unloaded a new Mastersbilt chassis for the B-main. Billy would shake down the new car and eventually pulled in
to make some minor chassis adjustments before the feature. Billy would make the 24 car field by virtue of a series
provisional starting position based on the current series national point's standings.
Drake would start 24th in the field for the 50-lap feature event that was full of great racing action and multiple passing on
the racy track. Billy would immediately move forward in the feature event and cracked into the top 10 by the halfway point
of the race. Billy would then charge into the top 5 by lap 33 and knew he had a great car that was driving exceptional on
this given night. Billy would move into the top three over the final laps and eventually moved into second place behind
eventual winner Brady Smith. Billy would stay within striking distance of the leader Smith but was only able to finish a
strong and impressive run towards the front from 24th with a solid 2nd place finish in the feature.
"Our car was really good on long green flag laps. We just needed a long green flag run at the end of the race and we might
have won the darn thing. Were happy with a second place finish after the night we started with. We hurt a motor in the
other car in the heat race so we had to go to a back up car that turned out to handle and drive better. We were fortunate to
finish 2nd with the level of competition that was here. Were going to take the same car to Wheatland this weekend for the
"Diamond Nationals" that we ran 2nd in to Brady Smith at Kentucky Lake", stated Billy Drake.
With his second place finish this past weekend Drake is now in 8th place in the series national point's standings. Billy
Drake Racing will travel this weekend to Wheatland, MO and compete at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks the Lucas Oil
Speedway. Billy will compete in the huge mega -event the "Super Clean Diamond Nationals on Friday and Saturday, May
9-10th with the winner of the 100-lap feature event taking home $40,000 dollars.
