Nezworski Gets First Summer Series Win at 34 Raceway

Burlington, IA (April 29) - The J&J Steel Ideal Ready Mix Deery Brother IMCA Late Model Summer Series made its 39th
visit to 34 Raceway, the most in the series history, on Tuesday, April 29. The series was originally scheduled to be the
opening race for the 2008 season at 34 Raceway but poor weather forced its postponement. Forty-five Late Models made
the trek to 34 Raceway to compete for the $2000 top prize. Also adding to the show were Hobby Stocks and 4-Cylinders.
Andy Nezworksi won his first series feature leading the 40 lap race from start to finish. Nezworksi took the lead from his
front row start with Justin Reed along side. Throughout the 40 lap race Nezworski couldn't shake Reed. On several
occasions Reed would pull behind or along side of the leader but Nezworksi was able to continue his run out front. The
two would eventually pull away from the third place driver of Mark Burgtorf, a six time series winner. On the fifth and final
caution Reed would be on Nezworski's bumper but would be unable to hold on as the leader would pull away to take the
checkered flag by several car lengths. The series leader going into the nights racing action, Todd Cooney, had to qualify
through a B-feature to earn him a spot in the twenty-four car race. Cooney moved up from his eighth row start to finish
sixth. 34 Raceway track regulars boasted five top ten finishes with Lonnie Bailey finishing fifth, Tom Darbyshire seventh,
Tom Goble eighth, Tom Bowling Jr. ninth and Matt Ryan, tenth. The series returns to 34 Raceway for the Pepsi USA Late
Model Nationals Sept. 12-13.
Matt Gavin of Kirkwood, Illinois took the checkered flag in the fifteen lap Hobby Stock feature. Gavin took the lead from
Alex Buffington, Wapello on lap 3 working to hold of Buffington through the race. On lap twelve, Buffington pulled up along
side of Gavin on the backstretch but could not complete the move as Gavin pulled back ahead. With the two leaders out in
front, a battle for third was going on between Chris Hovden, John Oliver and Luke McLaughlin. Gavin went on to take the
checkered flag followed by Buffington and Hovden. Oliver pulled ahead of McLaughlin on the last lap to finish fourth.
Twenty 4-Cylinders were on hand as they made the first of five stops at 34 Raceway for the Ideal Ready Mix / Louisa
Communications / I-Wireless Dash For Cash Series. Taking the win in the fifteen lap race was Tyler Schulte of Montrose.
Shulte took the early lead on lap two and never looked back pulling away from the field. But back behind him a battle was
going on between, Geoffrey Theobald, Chase Klenk, Chuck Fullenkamp and Bill Whalen Jr. The last eight laps saw
bumper to bumper racing action with Wapello's Theobald winning the battle for second as Shulte took the checkered flag
by a large margin. Bill Whalen Jr., won the 4-Cylinder dash which featured the top two finishers of each heat race.
