Pittman Takes Lead From Lasoski to Win IRA Outlaw 410 Sprint Feature
by Dana Royer
Burlington, IA (May 9) - If you weren't at 34 Raceway last Friday night, May 9 you most definitely missed out on a quite a
show by the IRA Outlaw 410 Sprints as it made its first of a two day stop in Iowa before traveling to Knoxville on Saturday
for the Sprint Showdown. Thirty five sprints, including six World of Outlaw regulars, were on hand and with names like
Danny Lasoski, Terry McCarl, Daryn Pittman, Ricky Logan, Billy Alley and local favorites Bobby Mincer, Matt Rogerson,
Nick Easton, Ryan Jamison and Josh Schneiderman among the drivers competing you would expect nothing less.
Supporting classes included the Mod Lites (Dwarf Cars) and 3/4 Midgets. The big win went to Daryn Pittman of Owasso,
Oklahoma, taking the checkered flag in the 30 lap 410 Sprint feature. Also getting wins were Benny Burnett (Mod Lites)
and Bronson Benning (3/4 Midgets).
A preview to the ground shaking World of Outlaw (WoO) event coming to 34 Raceway July 30, fans saw four heat races, a
B-feature and a 30 lap feature race for a full night of sprint car racing. Daryn Pittman made the most of a rain out, as the
World of Outlaw star changed his plans for the night and headed towards Iowa's 34 Raceway which was hosting the
Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series. The decision to come to 34 Raceway was a good one as Pittman won the
main event.
Ricky Logan and Dave Utech led the twenty-two car field to the drop of the green flag for the start of the race with IRA
veteran, Utech taking the early lead. Utech, led the first four laps before Logan slipped by for the second lead of the race.
Logan and Danny Lasoski put on a show for the next five laps before Lasoski took over lead number three on lap thirteen.
Moving up from his fourth row start was Daryn Pittman. Pittman chased Lasoski and then on lap twenty-two got by the
leader for the final lead change of the race. Pittman then went on to take the checkered flag with fifteen cars still on the
lead lap in this two-caution only affair. IRA point leader Steve Meyer finished eleventh. Pittman also established a new
track record in qualifying, topping the thirty-five car field with a lap of 12.461 defeating the old record set by Doug
Wolfgang. Three local favorites qualified for the main event including Josh Schneiderman, in only his second night in a 410
sprint, Bobby Mincer (who finished second in his heat in a 360) and Matt Rogerson.
In the Mod-Lite feature, Benny Burnett won the twelve lap feature taking the lead from Rob Guss on lap ten following a
caution and then went on to take the checkered flag.
Fourteen year old Bronson Benning took the lead on lap eight of the 3/4 Midget feature and went on to take the checkered
flag in the fifteen lap feature.
