Wilson Continues Davenport Dominance

McLaughlin gets IMCA Late Model victory at Davenport Speedway
by Mike McGuire
Davenport, IA (May 2, 2008) - On a dry, but cool evening, the Davenport Speedway finally managed to get a Friday night
racing program completed. One hundred competitors from three states were on hand to start the 2008 season. The event
was sponsored by Bruce’s Furniture.

In IMCA Late Model action, Terry Neal of Ely, Iowa, looked in mid-season form as he drove from mid-pack to the lead. Neal
would cruise on to apparent victory, however he would later be disqualified in post race inspection. Boone McLaughlin of
Mediapolis, Iowa, was the benefactor of Neal’s misfortune. McLaughlin started the race in the sixth position, ran in the top
five the entire race, and took the checkers second, behind Neal. Officially finishing second was Mike Murphy Jr., who had
led the early portion of the race. Third went to Andy Nezworski, with Matt Ryan fourth, and Keith Pratt fifth. Late Model
heat wins went to McLaughlin, Murphy, and Stephan Kammerer.

Defending Pro Modified track champion Thad Wilson took up where he had left off last season. The Moline racer started
the feature third and would race behind Donovan Lodge for the first handful of laps before taking the lead for good. Bob
Dominacki had a strong run to take second. John Bull, Doug Crampton, and Rick Ratliff rounded out the top five. Wilson
and Crampton were Pro Mod heat winners.

The Street Stock main was as exciting as it was fast. In the green-white-checkered affair, Andrew Burk took the early lead
from the pole position. By lap 10, Greg Gill had passed Burk and would hold on for the win. Burk would finish a close
second, with Joe Beal third, Donnie Louck fourth, and Henry Carson fifth.

Twenty-five B-Modifieds gave chase to the checkered flag Friday. When the final flag flew, Kelly Meyer of Big Rock was
the big winner. Meyer used a late race restart to get around leader Mike Fluegel and take the win. Fluegel would take
second, with Craig Crawford crossing the stripe in third. Crawford would be disqualified in inspection, moving Mel Saffran
to third, Kevin Fitzgibbon fourth, and a flaming Doug Burkhead fifth.

The INEX Legend Car division saw a first time winner in Jeremy Meyer of Cedar Rapids. Meyer burst out into the lead
early and held off Lane Swearinger for the win. Craig Peekenschnieder, Aaron Meyer, and Chad Hale completed the top
five.

Wade Dahl captured the win in the 4 Stock class. Heat winner, Ricky Kay was second, followed by Kevin Haury, Bill
Morrow, and Brian Ritter.

All six weekly classes will do battle next Friday, May 9th,  weather permitting. Next Friday’s races are sponsored by
Koehler Electric.
