Huls, Foster share Lee County Speedway Spotlight During Casey’s General Stores
Night at the Races

by Jake Croxton
Donnellson, IA (May 9) - Three first-time winners and two repeat winners shared victory lane during Casey’s General
Stores Fan Appreciation Night at the Lee County Speedway.

Abe Huls, John Oliver Jr., and Jeff Mueller waged a three-car war during the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car feature. Huls and
Mueller spent the majority of the event side-by-side with Oliver Jr. in tow. Mueller went under the five-to-go signal first but
got into turn one too deep and nearly looped his Chevrolet. Huls finished what he started and drove his Country View
Kennels / Monte Carlo into the winner’s circle for the first time at Lee County Speedway. Oliver Jr., Kirk Kinsley, Chris
Wibbell, and Jason Cook rounded out the top five, while Mueller rejoined the race and finished eighth. Nick Fenton and
Huls won in heat race action.

Josh Foster drove to the front of an action-packed Miller Lite IMCA Modified 20-lapper. Mike Weikert Jr., Foster, and Rich
Smith enjoyed the three-wide view from the front of the field early in the event before caution flew for Brandon Rothzen
and Darin Thye’s grinding crash in turn one. Both cars were destroyed. Foster led the remainder of the event to notch his
first win of the season in his Five Star Drywall / Chevy. Smith, Bill Roberts, tenth-starting Bill Parks, and Weikert Jr.
finished in the top five. Brandon Savage and Smith won the heat races.

Joe Hooper and Jim Gillenwater dueled throughout the Lawson Racing Engines and Parts Supply SportMod 15-lapper.
Gillenwater stole the show on a lap 11 restart and drove his Discount Tire & Service / Chevy into victory lane. Hooper had
to settle for second, while Rob Kirchner charged from thirteenth to third. Phillip Cossel and Levi Smith ended the event in
the top five. Hooper and Jim Kuhlmeier picked up heat race wins.

Dean Kratzer scored his second straight Donnellson Tire Hobby Stock feature win in a race marred by a scary accident
involving Rodger Dresden on the back straightaway. Dresden’s car was turned head-on into the concrete after contact
from another car. Dresden was talking to emergency personnel while being extricated from his mangled racer. When
racing resumed, Kratzer withstood a challenge from former track champion Jeff Soper. Jim Lynch, Decorah’s Steve
Christopher, and Jacob Smith followed Kratzer across the line.

Rob Hammel stunk up the Shottenkirk Parts Express Wild Thing 12-lapper as he found the front and walked away from the
field. Hammel is perfect thus far in 2008. Chris Loring Jr. crossed the line in second, while Dustan Fenton, Chuck
Fullenkamp, and Travis DeMint completed the top five.

Next week, the Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models hit the track with all five weekly classes. Race time is 7:30. One lucky
fan aged 5-17 will walk out of the grandstand with a Nintendo Wii gaming system. General admission is $10 for Adults,
which includes a free drink courtesy of Pepsi, Budweiser, and Miller Lite.
