Weather Smiles on Lebanon Midway, as Stovall Snags USRA Modified Main
Lebanon, MO (May 2) - Sunny skies finally smiled for racing action at the Lebanon Midway Speedway with over 90 cars
checking in the pits and excellent racing action with several new first time winners.
Action in the USRA Modified feature saw 19 drivers take the green with defending Midway champion Eric Hudson grabbing
the opening lead from his pole position with Chad Staus, Bobby Williams, Wayne Graybeal following. Hudson would set
the pace as tight racing behind the leader as Jimmy Willis and Jesse Stovall joining the battles. On lap 4, Hudson slowed
quickly with rearend problems as Williams, Status and Stovall went 3 wide with Stovall jumping to the outside groove
coming down the front stretch and grabbing the lead. Stovall checked away from the field leaving a great battle for second
as Bobby Williams held a solid run while the race for third was tight between Willis, Tony Jackson Jr., Staus, Jamie
Ragland and others. Coming for the checkered Stovall made it look easy grabbing his first of the season at Midway
followed by Williams, Jackson Jr., Ragland and Staus at the stripe.
The Factory Stock feature provided close racing as newcomer Chad Palmer grabbing the lead from his outside front row
spot with Dusty Rhoads quickly moving into the second spot. Palmer and Rhoads swapped the top spot until lap 6 when
Rhoads grabbed the lead while 10th place starting Issac Keeper had worked his way to the front putting pressure on the
leader Rhoads. This battle allowed Sundance Keeper and point leader Ben Solberg along with Doug Rich to close in on
the leaders. Coming for lap 13, Issac Keeper shot to the inside of Rhoads and held off a last lap surge to grab his first ever
Factory feature win with Rhoads, Solberg, S. Keeper and Rich following.
The B-Modifieds showed close racing action as Mickey Burrell brought the field to the green with Colt Cheevers and Steve
Muilenburg following with Cheevers grabbing the lead early. With Cheevers in front, Steve Muilenburg moved into second
and applied heavy pressure to the leader as Cheevers held off the strong charges. During the top spot battle, Mickey
Burrell, defending champion Jason Otto and Tyler Brown closed-up on the lead duo making it a tight 5 car battle. In the
closing laps, Muilenburg made several passes to grab the lead, but Cheevers held on to record his first Midway win of
2008 with Muilenburg, Burrell, Otto and T. Brown in the top 5.
The Super Stock feature provided excellent racing throughout the pack as Bill Joiner grabbed the opening lead with Dan
Newell following close behind. Bill Joiner was running a perfect high line while Larry Pruitt and JC Newell were battling
hard for second place. A mid race caution for rookie driver Donny Betts stacked the field-up with Joiner still setting the
pace. On the restart, Joiner would see a fast moving Ben Newell coming from his 11th starting spot along with Pruitt, JC
Newell and Dwight Neihoff battling. Ben Newell would use his experience to move around Joiner on lap 10 and record his
second straight victory with Pruitt, JC Newell, Neihoff and Joiner following.
The Bombers again provided plenty of close racing action as the field of 17 came to the green with Bobby Mooney
grabbing the early lead followed closely by Jack Hamer, Brandon Waters and Sundance Keeper. Mooney would set a
quick pace until lap 6 when he went sideways in turn 3 but kept it going giving the lead to Brandon Waters with Keeper,
Brandon Knutdson, Shawn Winfrey and John Darnell coming quickly. The front pack of 5 included a 6th member as point
leader Shawn Strong who started 11th was charging hard as Jack Hamer who fell back earlier was moving forward again.
A late caution on lap 13 bunched the field up as Waters was looking for his first ever Bomber win brought the field to the
green as Knutdson moved to the top groove and pulled even with Waters. Coming for the white flag, Knutdson grabbed the
lead and held off a last lap effort to grab his first ever Bomber Midway win with Waters, Keeper, Winfrey and Darnell
following closely behind.
The Sprint Car feature had Jeremy Williams grab the early lead with defending champion JP Compton following closely
and a tight pack including Galvin Galbreath, Clint Todd, J. Kinder and Rusty Quick. Williams would give the veteran
Compton plenty of competition tonight as he lead the opening 11 lap before Compton grabbed control and captured the
win with Williams, Quick, point leader Eric Todd and early contender Galbreath following.
Mike Scott ran down leader Danny Caffey to grab the Enduro car feature.
Up next week the Fastrak Late Model Regional Series will invade the Midway along with point races for the USRA
Modifieds, B-Modifieds, Super Stocks, Factory Stocks and Bombers. Gates opening at 5 and racing at 8pm sharp.
