Bader Gets First Win After Seven Years of Trying

by Ed Potter
Maquoketa, IA (May 10) - Saturday evening it finally looked like Jackson County Speedway was going to get the Coca
Cola Opener in the books, but only two thirds of it got done. Rain moved in and stole the last two features which will be the
first things ran on next weeks program.

Tim Bader has been towing his Ford Hobby Stock cars to Jackson County Speedway for seven years without ever getting
that elusive feature win. Saturday night was finally his night. Second heat winner, Neil Patchin came from his fifth place
starting spot to lead the first lap of the feature with Bader moving into second on lap two. Bader could get up beside
Patchin but couldn’t quite get all the way by. They took the white flag side by side with the caution coming out as they went
down the back stretch. The caution was for Patchin and D.J. Fuller, giving Bader his much deserved first victory. First heat
winner Joe Bonney was second, with Ethan Milder taking third. Mike McGarry took fourth in his first Hobby Stock race after
moving up from 4 Stocks, with Bruce Ferguson rounding out the fop five.

4 Stock first heat winner, Brannon Bechen came from fifth to lead the feature flag to flag for his first win of the new season
with second heat winner, Kile Vohringer coming from ninth to take second. Matt Montoya was third, as Chris Holmlund
came from dead last to take fourth. Tim Maika was fifth.

After winning the Street Stock heat race Mitch Schmitz led the feature flag to flag for his first victory of the year. A real dog
fight was going on behind him for the rest of the top five spots, as Corey Rupp was second, with Klay Letcher third, Kevin
Brame fourth and Terry Rittmer fifth.

Friday nights Davenport Speedway Pro Modified winner, Mike Zemo Jr. drew lucky number one to start Saturday’s feature,
and looked like he was going to make it two in a row. Zemo led until an eleventh lap caution flew and he had to retire to the
pits with mechanical woes. On the restart Kevin Blum charged out front and was still there when the caution flew again at
lap fifteen. The race was called at this point as the rains had moved in and the nights program was over. Blum was
followed by Tim Arp, Doug Crampton, Dan Klatt and Jake Bowman, in that order. Don Pataska and Bob Dominacki were
the heat winners.

IMCA Late Model heat races went to Mike Garland and Terry Neal, while B-Modified heats were won by Greg Mickelson
and Keith Feller. Once again these two features will be the first things on this weeks program.
